Brooklyn

Surgeries are performed by Dr. Kevin on Tuesday mornings, Dr. Larry on Wednesday mornings, and Dr. Michelle on Thursday mornings. All three doctors are equally and excellently qualified, but if you have a personal preference we will be happy to accommodate you.

We recommend that your pet not eat after 6:00 p.m. on the night prior to their surgery, and not drink anything on the morning of their surgery. If they're accidentally fed or they get into something overnight, we may need to reschedule their procedure. For the safety of our clinic pets and other client's pets, all hospitalized patients must be current on their core vaccines; if your pet is due or overdue, we will update them upon admission.

Please bring your pet between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on the morning of their scheduled surgery, and allow at least 5 minutes to review the following forms:

Hospitalization & Surgical Release Form: This form certifies that you are the pet's owner and, as such, authorize us to hospitalize and treat your pet. We'll need to know where the doctor can reach you if he/she has any questions, and if you would like any additional services performed (i.e., FeLV/FIV test, microchip implant, etc.).

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Consent Form: This form establishes your treatment preference (i.e., approving or declining heroic intervention) in the event that your pet requires cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). With a complete physical exam and, preferably, bloodwork prior to surgery, we do everything we can to reduce the anesthesia risk to your pet - but we need to know how you want us to proceed if something unforeseen happens and we cannot reach you immediately. You may also indicate a maximum expenditure for the intervention procedures (or leave it up to the doctor's discretion).

Pre-Anesthetic Blood Testing Consent Form: This form explains how pre-anesthetic bloodwork analysis greatly reduces the risk of complications during surgery. The results indicate the efficiency of your pet's kidney and liver function, allowing your vet to prescribe the best anesthetic for your pet. While a pre-anesthetic blood profile does not guarantee the absence of complications, it greatly reduces the risk as well as identifies hidden medical conditions that may preclude surgery and/or require further treatment.

Surgical Estimate: The final form we'll ask you to sign lists everything involved in your pet's procedure and the corresponding costs. A pre-surgical physical exam and post-surgical nail trim are included at no charge. The low end of the estimate covers the bare necessities, and the high end includes the optional pre-anesthetic bloodwork and/or procedures as well as pain and antibiotic medications to go home.

The doctor will call you after all surgeries are complete, usually before noon. As we observe your pet's recovery into the afternoon, we'll determine whether an e-collar, pain medication, or antibiotic are needed. Spay and declaw patients stay overnight; neuter and dental patients can go home the same day - usually between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Payment in full is due when you pick up your pet.
